Airtel 16 Mbps broadband internet launched in Bangalore and Chennai.

Airtel 16 MBPS broadband internet launched

Airtel 16 MBPS broadband, the fastest wireline broadband internet is here. Airtel launched the 16 MBPS broadband internet service and connections on April 6, 2009.

Initially, the high-speed broadband connection and service from Airtel will be available in New Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Chennai. Airtel said the 16 MBPS high-speed DSL broadband coverage will be expanded to other cities later.

Airtel already wireline high-speed broadband access with speeds up to 8 MBPS.
Airtel has two schemes in the 16 MBPS broadband plan. In the first one, (Speed Combo 2999) you pay Rs 2999, which will get you a 16 MBPS broadband internet connection, a land phone and a data plan for a maximum of 20 GB data transfer. In the second plan (Speed Combo 4999), you pay Rs 4999, and get the 16 MBPS connection with fixed line Airtel phone and a 50 GB data plan.

There are no unlimited plans offered by Airtel in the new 16 MBPS broadband scheme.

Airtel already has nearly 10 lakh customers in for its broadband internet services. The company hopes that the latest high-speed internet service offering 16 MBPS connection and download speed will help it expand the broadband internet market.

Bharti Airtel Telemedia Services Joint President K Srinivas said: “Airtel has constantly strived to innovate and deliver high quality products to its broadband customers. We are the leading private broadband service provider in the country and pioneered 8 Mbps broadband. It gives us great pleasure now to be able to introduce the fastest, wired broadband service on DSL. We will be able to offer 16 Mbps broadband to 70% of the households in the 3 cities of Delhi NCR, Chennai and Bangalore.”

The Airtel 16 MBPS connection is powered by Airtel’s Carrier Ethernet service, which is a DSL network with fibre optic cables. The last mile access is powered by ASDSL+ copper cables.

High-speed broadband internet connections of the type offered by Bharti Airtel are useful for online gaming, fast downloads of movies, videoconferencing etc.
